Community members attending today's Elizabeth Smart return celebration at 6 p.m. at Liberty Park are encouraged to carpool or use free shuttles provided by UTA. The buses will pick up passengers at the north parking lot of Franklin Quest Field (77 W. 1300 South) and drop them off at the park.
Shuttles will go every 12 minutes from 4:30 to 8 p.m. UTA suggests taking TRAX to the Ballpark Station at 1300 South and walking 1 1/2 blocks east to the parking lot. Extra TRAX vehicles will be used to accommodate the anticipated increase in riders. Parking at Franklin Quest Field's lot is also available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The celebration will include entertainment, including a performance by Thurl Bailey and American Indian drum group and dancers, fireworks, food and comments by members of the Smart family. It will be in the northwest quadrant of Liberty Park, where the original candlelight vigil was held days after Smart's disappearance in June.
