New mission presidents

Eight new mission presidents, called by the First Presidency, have been announced. They will begin their service about July 1.

Jorge Fermin Betancourth, 56; Uruguay Montevideo Mission; Colon Ward, Guayaquil Ecuador Garcia Moreno Stake; stake president; former branch president, counselor in mission presidency, bishop and high councilor. Construction supervisor for Church. Born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, to Augusto Firmo and Clara Mercedes Santos de Betancourth. Married Marcia Isabel Leon, four children.

A ward Primary president, she is a former counselor in stake Young Women presidency, counselor and teacher in Relief Society. Born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, to Juan Rodrigo and Eva Angelina Lopez de Leon.


Steven Niels Holdaway, 57; Mexico Hermosillo Mission; Greenacres Ward, Spokane Washington Valley Stake; stake public affairs director; former stake president, teacher development instructor, bishop, high councilor and stake clerk. Engineering manager for Agilent Technologies. Born in American Fork, Utah, to Robert David and Edna Fugal Holdaway. Married Nancy Clara Richards, four children.

A ward Relief Society president, she is a former counselor in Relief Society presidency, counselor and secretary in Young Women presidency. Born in Logan, Utah, to Grant Stucki and Lucile Jorgenson Campbell Richards.


Jesse Rees Jensen, 65; Missouri Independence Mission; Mount Olympus 6th Ward, Salt Lake Mount Olympus Stake; stake president; former high councilor and Sunday School teacher. President of JRJ Investments, LLC. Born in Ferron, Utah, to Joel Peter and Maurine Conover Jensen. Married Virginia Urry, four children.

A ward Relief Society teacher, she is a former counselor in the Relief Society general presidency, director of Church hosting, counselor in Young Women presidency, counselor in stake Primary, Young Women and Relief Society presidencies. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Francis Lester and Leona Virginia Carroll Urry.


Jose Vicente Larrea, 56; Colombia Bogota North Mission; Alborada Ward, Guayaquil Ecuador Alborada Stake; former bishop, stake president, high priests group leader, seminary teacher and branch president. Temple engineer for the Church. Born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, to Juan Alfredo and Olga Maria Chavez Larrea. Married Lilian Maria Heredia; six children.

A Sunday School teacher, she is a former ward Young Women president, Primary president and counselor in stake Young Women presidency. Born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, to Olmedo and Josefina Carrera de Heredia.


John Banks Ludwig, 63; Greece Athens Mission; Cupertino Ward, Saratoga California Stake; stake president; former seminary teacher, Sunday School teacher, high councilor and bishop. Dentist. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Eugene Collett and Lola Banks Ludwig. Married Sandra Kay Bailey, four children.

A gospel doctrine teacher, she is a former Relief Society teacher, Young Women president, stake Young Women president and Primary chorister. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Harold Mark and Ruby Iva Iverson Bailey.


Edgar Angel Mantilla, 43; Colombia Bogota South Mission; Terrazas Ward, Bucaramanga Colombia Stake; stake president; former bishop, elders quorum president, stake executive secretary and missionary. Regional coordinator for Church Educational System. Born in Sabana de Torres, Colombia, to Jorge Alberto and Isabel Vargas Mantilla. Married Claudia Patricia Arciniegas, three children.

A Relief Society teacher, she is a former Sunday School teacher, counselor in stake Primary presidency, ward Primary president and Young Women president. Born in Bucaramanga, Colombia, to Enrique and Maria Luisa Carreno de Arciniegas.


Robert Edward Noel, 63; North Carolina Charlotte Mission; Cascade 5th Ward, Orem Utah Cascade Stake; counselor in Provo Missionary Training Center branch presidency; former ward mission leader, Sunday School teacher, bishop, high councilor, elders quorum president and missionary. Associate professor at Brigham Young University. Born in Louisville, Ky., to Robert Frank and Mary Elizabeth Franklin Noel. Married Darlene Hatch, five children.

A Sunday School teacher, she is a former stake and ward missionary, Relief Society teacher and adviser, and choir director. Brigham Young University information desk supervisor. Born in Madera, Calif., to Wilder Allen and Guinivere Hale Hatch.


Russell Trent Osguthorpe, 56; South Dakota Rapid City Mission; Oakhills 9th Ward, Provo Utah Oakhills Stake; regional welfare agent and Sunday School teacher; former stake president, stake Young Men president, branch president, member of Tabernacle Choir and missionary. Department chairman and professor of instructional psychology and technology at Brigham Young University. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Wesley Trenton and Iva LaRue Russell Osguthorpe. Married Lola Amelia Sedgwick, five children.

A ward choir director and Relief Society teacher, she is a former Young Women president, stake camp director, Primary president, counselor in Relief Society presidency and member of Tabernacle Choir. Sixth grade school teacher. Born in Riverside, Calif., to Joel Garrett and Lola May Hansen Sedgwick.
