LAS VEGAS — The University of Utah basketball team held an eight-point lead in the second half of its Mountain West Conference tournament semifinal game late Friday night.
You'd never believe it judging by the final score.
After a fast start to open the second half, the Utes went cold at the same time the the Runnin' Rebels put it all together. The result was a 25-1 run — and a lopsided, 64-41, UNLV victory. Utah went more than 10 minutes without a field goal during the stretch.
The Rebels, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, will now face sixth-seeded Colorado State for the MWC's automatic berth in the NCAA tournament. Utah, which tied with BYU for the regular season conference title, is still expected to receive an invitation.
