It's wonderful that Salt Lake City, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Huntsman, Eccles and Sorenson foundations and many others have joined to improve the Sorenson Center in the Glendale area. The center is helping a lot of our friends and deserves all the help we can give.
But why is the generosity of the city-church-foundation coalition being offered as trade for the city giving up its easement on the Main Street Plaza? Isn't true generosity offered for its own sake, without unrelated conditions?
