Bingham girls sweep tourney in St. George

Miners claim 5 wins in 5 games of softball

The Bingham Miners blanked Sierra Vista High School 5-0 to cap an undefeated run through the St. George warm-up Saturday. Bingham made it to the championship game with two wins Friday and three more Saturday. The Miners won Saturday's games by a combined 16-4. Amber Sackett pitched a one-hitter to shut out Palo Verde, and Jamie Young hit a homer in the championship.

JORDAN 3, MCQUEEN 1: Jordan scored the winning runs in the fourth inning to earn the win at the Laughlin, Nev., tournament.

CARBON 9, WASATCH 6: Carbon scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull out the win.

BINGHAM 9, BEAR LAKE 4: Tiffany Godfrey drove in three runs, including a two-run homer, in the win for Bingham.

BINGHAM 2, PALO VERDE 0: Amber Sackett pitched a one-hitter and went 2-3 on the mound for the Miners.

OREM 3, FOOTHILL 1: The Tigers held Foothill to one run to earn the win at the St. George tournament.

TIMPANOGOS 2, OREM 1: Orem ended the St. George tournament with a loss to Timpanogos by one run.

JORDAN 6, CHAPARRAL 4: Jordan got the win when Stephanie Calaway stole home and the Chaparral catcher missed the throw.

COPPER HILLS 6, VIEWMONT 5:Brad Thomas singled in DallinBarnes for the winning run in the bottom of the seventh and Joe Barnes pitched 3 1/3 no-hit innings in relief as Copper Hills edged Viewmont. Zach Agular was 3-for-3, including a double and 2 RBIs for Copper Hills.

HUNTER 8, HIGHLAND 0:Cassey Farnsworth pitched a no-hitter and threw 12 strikeouts to help Hunter top Highland.

FREMONT 7, BOUNTIFUL 5: Fremont improved to 3-0 on the year with the win over Bountiful.

SPRINGVILLE 8, MURRAY 4:Scott Pickering hit a 2-run single to start a 6-run third inning as Springville beat Murray and improved to 4-1 on the year.

DIXIE 14, SPANISH FORK 13:Tyler Deveraux drove in three runs and went 3-5 at the plate for the Flyers.

WASATCH 4, HURRICANE 0: Wasatch earned its first win of the year thanks to goals by Bedane Kennard, Daniel Whitaker and Matt Huntsman. The shutout came at the hands of goal keepers' Erik Lappe and Josue Armendariz.

SKY VIEW 1, CEDAR 0:Roberto Cartamo hit a PK in the first half for the only goal of the game.

TOOELE 2, JUAN DIEGO 2 (2 OT): After a double overtime battle, Juan Diego walked away with a tie in it's first game as a 2A program. Mike Bookman scored twice for Juan Diego, Clint Johnson and Nate Andrews found the net for the Buffaloes.

HUNTER 3, DIXIE 0: The Wolverines picked up their first win of the year behind goals from Nick Leifting, Josh Staten and Chad Peterson. DerekSteinman recorded the shutout.

PARK CITY 0, PLEASANT GROVE 0: The Vikings and the Miners battled to a 0-0 draw as both teams played tough defense.
