Obituary: Evan LaMar Howell

Evan LaMar Howell, 71, of Spanish Fork, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2003 of congestive heart failure.

He was born March 1, 1931 in Ne

phi, Utah to Voil L. Howell and Florence Gadd Howell. He attended school in Nephi and graduated from Juab High. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He married Luena Carter on May 1, 1954. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. Evan was active in the LDS Church and served in many Ward and Stake capacities, including Bishop and High Councilor. At the time of his death he was teaching a Temple preparation class with his wife.

He served an LDS mission in Cleveland, Ohio in 1993 and 1994 with his wife, where he made many wonderful friends. He also enjoyed serving in the Provo Temple for four years.

He was an avid coach and supporter of his children's and grandchildren's athletic and musical endeavors. He was employed by Mountain Bell/US West for 36 years as a planning engineer. He enjoyed his association with many co-workers even after his retirement in 1990.

He is survived by his wife, Luena; his children: Scott (Tammy) Howell of Spanish Fork; Teresa (Dennis) Sperry of Salina; Brian Howell of Springville; and Jeff Lovaas of Bend, Oregon; his brother, Jack (LuDean) Howell of Springville; his sister, Diane (Scott) Adams of Draper; and 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Evan was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Robert Howell.

Dad will be remembered for his warm smile, generous nature, and enduring wisdom.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at 11 a.m. in the Spanish Fork Stake Center Chapel, 1006 East 200 South. Friends may call on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walker Family Mortuary 187 South Main, Spanish Fork, and on Tuesday at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
