Obituary: Richard Joel Smith

9/15/29 ~ 3/18/03

Our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great- grandfather Richard Joel Smith, 73, returned home to his Heavenly Father on March 18, 2003 in Bullhead, Arizona.

Dick was born September 15, 1929 to George Edward Smith and Amy Lorena Nelson Smith in Grantsville, Utah in the little house on the southwest corner of the Elementary School Yard. He was the third of eight children, and truth be told, his Mother's favorite. His brothers and sisters are Spike and Marie Smith, Ruby and Harold Green, Delores and Arlo Fawson, Reed and Janet Smith, Ruth and Jack Hibler and the late Rowland Marshall, Annette and Jim Kelley and Louise Smith.

He married Maxine Koford on February 20, 1960. They've been married for 43 exciting years and had six rotten children, Sharlene and Perry Skaug, Ronald E. and Kordy Mattinson, Jolene and John Miller, Richard Mark and Lori Smith, Sherri and Greg Knapp and Dirk A. and Lisa Smith. His true pride and joy are his 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is loved by all of us and we will miss him very much!

He served his country during the Korean Conflict. He worked at American Salt for 20 years and retired to Bullhead City, Arizona in 1987. He loved camping and hunting, but he especially loved the stories and the time it gave him with his family.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 22, 2003 at 1 p.m. at the Grantsville Stake Center at 550 E. Durfee Street, Grantsville, Utah. A viewing will be held at the church from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the services. The interment will be at the Grantsville City Cemetery.
