First lady, N.Y. mayor mark park's anniversary

First lady Laura Bush and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg will serve as honorary co-chairs of the yearlong celebration of Central Park's 150th anniversary.

The Central Park Conservancy and the city Department of Parks and Recreation made the announcement Thursday.

"Central Park is one of New York City's greatest treasures, drawing millions of visitors from around the world each year, and its sesquicentennial celebration merits a tribute for the ages," Bloomberg said in a statement.

Details of the activities planned for the yearlong celebration will be outlined April 29, Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe said.
