Math, science teachers win presidential awards

WASHINGTON — Four top Utah math and science teachers were honored Friday with the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

The awards are given to teachers from each state. Winners receive a $7,500 award from the National Science Foundation to improve science and mathematics instruction.

Utah honorees are Linda Coray, Park Elementary, Spanish Fork, elementary mathematics; Ann Houmand, Crescent Elementary, Sandy, elementary science; Ember Storrs, Cyprus High, Magna, secondary mathematics; and Ken O'Brien, Clayton Middle School, Salt Lake City, secondary science.
