Let's get the terms straight. This is not truly a war. The proper terminology for today's events is an "invasion." The world's greatest national power has selected a country where a thug-led people obliquely resembled the perpetrators of the tragedies of Sept. 11.
I cringe at the practically gleeful response to this invasion. My own father referred to it as a "special time" and, in reference to the troops securing the southern oil fields of Iraq, called this "war" a "neat" war.
We should shudder at the botched diplomacy and lack of innovation to resolve political conflict peacefully. We should pray for the speedy and safe return of our troops. We should be campaigning for the welfare of the Iraqi citizens and a fair restoration of their nation.
