"Greetings, You Nice People"
Walter E. Ulrich Jr., age 76, our loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all, passed away at home Monday, March 24, 2003 of a heart attack.
Born November 25, 1926, in Devils Slide, Utah, the son of Walter E and Thora Turner Ulrich.
Attended Morgan High School until called into military service during World War II. He served in the Navy in the Pacific Theater. Thereafter he served as an Army officer in Austria, as part of the Occupation Force. He married his high school sweetheart, and eternal companion, Donna Clark, in the Salt Lake City Temple on December 18, 1946. Together they were the proud parents of three sons and three daughters.
He graduated from Utah State University and began teaching Shop at Lincoln Jr. High. He later worked at Sperry Univac. In 1965 he went to work in the Utah State Dept. of Education, where he was the State Director of Vocational Education for 17 years. He retired as the Vocational Director for Davis School District in 1987.
Walt was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served the Lord in many callings including Bishop's counselor, Bishop, and High Counselor. Shortly after retirement, Walt and Donna realized a lifelong dream and fulfilled a mission to New Zealand. Later they were called as missionaries to the LDS Business College. Their third mission was a humanitarian mission to Madras, India. He loved working in the Temple with his wife, Donna. He was recently released as a Counselor in the Jordan River Temple Presidency. He was currently serving as a Sealer in the Salt Lake Temple.
The greatest joy in his life was his children and grandchildren. He was blessed with six children, 28 grandchildren and seven and one half great grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Donna Ulrich; his children Craig (Jeanne) Ulrich, David (Julie) Ulrich, Janice (Roy) Harris, Julie (Perry) Frandsen, Cindy (Brett) Hales and Jeff (Jill) Ulrich.
Funeral services will be Friday, March 28th, 12 noon at the Cottonwood Heights Third Ward, 6890 S. 2228 E. Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends and family may call at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E., 10600 So., Sandy on Thurs. from 6-8:30 p.m. and also on Friday at the ward from 10-11:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the LDS Missionary Fund or Humanitarian Fund.
