It appears inconsistent when the Deseret News, front page, March 2, seems to chide the Utah Legislature for being out of touch with the will of the people when, during the current session, it attempts to pass a law that is contrary to intense public opinion. The inconsistency lies in the fact that in earlier publications, the Deseret News strongly encouraged these same lawmakers to ignore the public will, as affirmed by a voter-passed initiative, and repeal the 12-year term-limit law.
Now that it appears the Legislature will follow the counsel of the Deseret News editorial staff, the News is attempting to put itself back on the side of public opinion by indirectly finding fault with the legislative action. Is this having your cake and eating it, too?
