1924 ~ 2003

Al Barrutia, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, died Thursday, May 22, at the University of Utah Hospital.

Al was born June 3, 1924 in Bingham Canyon, UT to Maria Idoeta and Pat Barrutia. He married MeriLyn Murdock Jan 31, 1961 in Elko, NV.

Al graduated from West High School where he was chosen by the executive board to be among the outstanding graduates. He went on to attend the University of Utah. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged.

He had many diversified careers, running a bar with his brother, Tony; a long association with Streator Chev-rolet; and his own car lot, Pride Auto, with his partner, Joe Belliston. After retiring from the automobile business he remodeled and sold many homes.

He was a devoted family man, always close to his brothers, sister, nephews and nieces. He was a wonderful companion to his wife and daughters, Karma and Marci. Al was proud of his Basque heritage and was always an enthusiastic participant in all the Utah Basque Club activities. Art, magic, music and humor were always a part of Al's life.

He is survived by his wife, MeriLyn; daughters, Karma Ramsey (Tom), Marci McAllister (Grant); brother, Tony Barrutia (Ariella); sister, Elvira Bertram (Len); sister-in-law, Kathleen Barrutia; stepsister, Elvira Perry (Eric); granddaughter, Kaitlin Ramsey; many special nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by his baby son, Steve; mother and father; and brother, Richard.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tues. May 27, 2003, Memory Grove Park, 485 Canyon Rd, Salt Lake City, UT.
