LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A United Way branch is suing two accounting firms for allegedly failing to notice that its former finance chief stole nearly $2 million from the agency.

Capital Area United Way also wants the accounting firms Main Hurdman and KPMG to recoup the funds, said its lawyer, Powell Miller.

"The United Way hired experts to protect itself," Miller said. "We think if they had done their job properly, this wouldn't have happened."
