The Utah County Sheriff's Office spent much of the day Saturday looking for an 18-year-old man lost in Utah Lake.
Police received a call at 3:44 p.m. and search and rescue teams began searching the water just south of the Lindon Marina. The search was called off for the night at about 9 p.m.
The man and his 16-year-old brother were on a float tube at about 2 p.m. when a wind storm started and blew the tube out toward the middle of the lake, according to a sheriff's office news release. The two jumped out of the tube and attempted to swim to shore, approximately 500 yards away.
The 16-year-old held onto the tube, and his older brother let go and started to swim to shore by himself, police said. The 18-year-old then turned and told his brother he was tired and cold and could not swim any farther, according to the news release.
The man went under the water about 20 feet from the tube, and his younger brother, who swam toward the man and dived under the water, could not find him. A nearby boat took the younger boy to shore, police said. The brothers are from Salt Lake City.
