I applaud Sid Williams' comments regarding a cemetery being "sacred ground." Appeals to local leaders to limit activities such as jogging and power walking in the local cemetery have fallen on deaf ears here in Kaysville. Despite the fact that virtually all religions decry such activities, they are encouraged by the city leaders because they feel flooding the cemetery with people cuts down vandalism. But, as police records show, vandalism and thefts occur almost exclusively at night when joggers have gone home.

I have given up trying to visit my loved ones' final resting place because of the intrusive activities of others in the sacred name of "fitness." Parents should control their children, as Williams suggested, but they should also control themselves and take their physical fitness regimens elsewhere. I can hardly wait to see what's next here — a rugby game?
