I usually agree with and enjoy Lee Benson's columns, but I must disagree with his column on Annika Sorenstam. Apparently, Mr. Benson and a number of other males still haven't gotten the point. Playing alongside women does not lessen their masculinity. Just because the LPGA exists and has a tour for women, it is not "equal" to competing in the men's tournaments.
Women's sports are sorely neglected by the public and press. The women's tour prize packages in all sports are minuscule compared to those received by the men.
Shame on Vijay Singh. As a non-white golfer he of all people should see the inequity of the "separate but equal" status of women's sports.
I am glad the former BYU golfer that has drawn to play in her group has been supportive and not hostile. Annika is not asking for a shortened course or other special privileges as compensation for her gender. She is only asking for an opportunity to play on equal footing with her male counterparts. It is most certainly fair to allow her this opportunity.
