6/11/19 ~ 5/23/03
Mary Jones Clark, 83, beloved by her family and friends, passed away Friday 23 May, 2003, of natural causes.
Mary was born 11 June, 1919, in Salt Lake City to parents Leo and Mabel Jones. Mary was reared with brother, Leo; and sisters, Zella, Blanch, Bonnie, in the beautiful two-story home, 432 N. 200 W, Salt Lake. She had a wonderful childhood with many friends and enjoyable times that she would reminisce about in later years. She graduated from West High, 1936. Mary married Fred Clark, Farmington, UT the 4th of July, 1940, and moved to the remote mining camp of Cherry Creek, NV where Fred had gone to find work in 1935 during the Great Depression. After several years in Cherry Creek, Fred and Mary moved to the larger mining camp of Kimberly, NV near Ely where Fred found work at one of the copper mines. Their first son, James, was born at Kimberly. Mary often talked about the hard but fun and exciting times of living in the old west mining camps in those days. Cherry Creek was especially memorable with its rough and tumble environment and home being a tiny mine shack with an out-house, coal-oil lamps, and a wood burning stove. In 1948, Fred and Mary moved back home to Utah and after several moves bought their first home in the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake. This is where their second son, Gary, was born. Fred became employed by Kennecott as a machinist and worked there for the remainder of his career. In 1955, Fred built Mary a nice, new, larger home in Bountiful where they spent the rest of their lives. Mary loved traveling and camping with her family in their truck and camper. Yellowstone and the Uintas were her favorites. She also enjoyed flower gardening, antique collecting, rock hound-ing, and oil painting.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Fred, Sept 2001, after 61 wonderful years of marriage. Mary is survived by sons, James, Gary; Gary's wife Kelly; grandchildren; loving older sister, Blanch Richins, who was at her side when she passed away; and younger sister, Bonnie Graves.
