The Deseret News editorial staff just doesn't get it. Sure, in a perfect world, school is no place for weapons. But this is not a perfect world. So we have criminals who continue to carry guns wherever they like, even if it is unlawful. Putting a law on the books does not ensure the safety of a threatened woman who must pick up her children at school while in fear of her ex who swears he will take the children and harm her.
Taking weapons away from law-abiding citizens gives cowardly criminals the advantage. Just one teacher with a concealed firearm in the right location at Columbine High School could have made all the difference. The Deseret News editorial staff is not ignorant or uninformed, but I do question their motives. Concealed carry permit holders are not crazed hotheads bent on spraying lead all over the place. What is the problem, Deseret News?
