The argument is often made that whether or not a driver uses a seat belt should be a personal choice, since if he chooses not to wear one, no one else is at risk in an accident, assuming the driver is alone in the car. I suggest, however, that an accident can easily displace an unrestrained driver away from the driver's seat, perhaps sending him across the car into the passenger seat. Needless to say, in this position the driver is totally helpless in controlling the car, which has at that point become a lethal missile.
