I would like to applaud the recent settlement between Gov. Mike Leavitt and Interior Secretary Gale Norton and its impact on wilderness designations in Utah. It must be difficult for SUWA to realize that its mission for the past 10-12 years (to inventory and find additional areas they consider candidates for wilderness designation) has been negated. Unfortunately SUWA's members and supportive foundations have contributed millions of dollars to meet these goals, and now all of that money has been for naught. This should mark the beginning of the end for SUWA. Their members and contributing organizations should realize that their money has been wasted in a long and unsuccessful attempt to expand, beyond reasonable means, wilderness lands in Utah.
