1918 ~ 2003

Beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2003 after a courageous struggle with Parkinson's disease. She now joins her eternal companion after death separated them 20 years ago.

Marguerite, age 84, was born in Richmond, Utah to Bryan Hyer Hendricks and Bertha Roskelly Hendricks December 15, 1918. Her early years were spent working on the family farm. She later graduated from North Cache High School and Utah State Agricultural College, where she majored in home economics. After graduation, Marguerite taught home economics in the Cedar City, Parowan and Salt Lake City schools. She also represented the McCalls Pattern Company, teaching design and clothing construction in the schools. Marguerite loved flowers her entire life and always had outstanding flower gardens. She won numerous awards in both flower arranging and horticulture and was a founding member of the Artistic Designers Garden Club. She was also deeply involved in several other garden clubs. For thirty years she judged flower show exhibits, demonstrated flower arranging, and later worked as a volunteer at Red Butte Gardens. Marguerite was an outstanding quilter and served as president of the state quilting guild. She enjoyed designing and making full sized quilts as well as wall hangings for her loved ones, who will continue to enjoy Marguerite's eye for beauty and design through her beautiful quilts. While raising her family of three sons Marguerite compiled a 750 page book on the ancestry and descendants of Henry and Sarah Hendricks (1730). She spent 10 years on this particular genealogical endeavor working with a manual typewriter. This book went through three printings and is now available on CD. Throughout her life Marguerite has been an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served as a teacher, counselor and president in the different church auxiliary organizations. She spent many years as a docent at the Museum of Church History and Art and was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. On December 14, 1941 Marguerite married her sweetheart Orson Nelson Allen in the Logan, Utah L.D.S. Temple. Orson and Marguerite were blessed with three sons and one daughter.

Survivors include her sister, Clea Hugie of Scio, Oregon; sons, Douglas Ray Allen (Marilyn) of Thatcher, Arizona; Ronald Keith Allen of Houston, Texas; Craig David Allen (Susan) of Taylorsville, Utah; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Marguerite was preceded in death by her only daughter Janet, her husband Orson, a brother Willard, a sister Joan Palmer and her parents.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 30, 2003, 12:00 noon at the Valley Park Stake Center, 2603 W. 4700 S., Taylorsville, Utah. Friends may call Thursday, May 29, 2003, 7-9:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Road (1700 West) and Friday, May 30, 2003 at the church, 11-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
