OREM — A 55-year-old stucco worker was killed Friday after falling 23 feet from the scaffolding he was working on.

According to Orem police, Jose Gallegos was working at the construction site at 1200 S. Geneva Road around 2 p.m. when the accident occurred. Gallegos was working on the third floor of the future Parkway Crossing building, which is to be, in part, housing for Utah Valley State College students. Police say Gallegos lost his footing and fell from the scaffolding and suffered massive head trauma from the fall.

A medical helicopter was called to the scene but was later cancelled when medical crews determined that Gallegos was deceased. Police say they do not believe Gallegos was wearing head protection when his head hit the ground.
