FARMINGTON — Centerville City Councilwoman Nancy Smith has been cleared of any wrongdoing as a council member by the Davis County Attorney's Office.

Following an investigation conducted by his office, County Attorney Mel Wilson in a letter said Smith has been cleared of all allegations that as a councilwoman she had engaged in conduct to secure personal benefit for herself and others.

The investigation was spurred by two letters received by Wilson's office in January. An anonymous letter claimed Smith had been the target of slander, calling her character into question because of her vote to fire a Centerville city planner. She was one of three council members who voted to fire him last year.

"I am grateful for those people who know me and don't need a letter to confirm what they know. For those who don't know me, they can feel confident that the county has done their duty with all diligence and found absolutely nothing," Smith said.

"I do believe someone is targeting me because of a misperception they have because of our city planner being fired," she continued. "What they need to realize is that one person doesn't have that much of an impact within a city. The majority must rule before something is done."
