Utah

ACADEMIC AWARDS: University of Utah gymnast Theresa Kulikowski and skier Petra Svet have been named to the 2003 first-team Academic All-District VIII at-large team. The duo is now eligible for Academic All-America status.

Kulikowski, a 2002 Verizon Academic All-American and the At-Large Team Member of the Year, is a 14-time All-American and three-time NCAA champion. She made the All-America first team on the uneven bars and balance beam at the 2003 NCAA Championships and was voted the AAI Senior Gymnast of the Year by the nation's gymnastics coaches.

Svet, a key member of Utah's 2003 NCAA Champion ski team, was a 2002 Verizon third-team All-American. The 2001 NCAA slalom champion, Svet placed 11th in the slalom and 12th in the giant slalom at the 2003 NCAA Championships. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in finance.

Utah State

FOOTBALL: Guard Trevor Hutton of Utah State University has been added to the Outland Trophy watch list. The Outland Trophy annually goes to the nation's top interior lineman. He joins two other in-state players — Jason Kaufusi of Utah and Brady Poppinga of BYU — on the list.

Weber State

GOLF/TENNIS: Curtis Andrews, a junior on the men's golf team, was named to the 2003 academic All-District VIII men's second team. Andrews ended this season as the No. 2 golfer for the Wildcats with a 75.81 stroke average. A native of Layton, Andrews has a 3.82 grade point average.

Kenny Lindley, a senior on the men's tennis team from Bountiful was named to the at-large third team. Lindley ended his four-year career at Weber State at No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles. He has a 3.86 GPA and will graduate in December.

Brianna Beauchene, a junior on the women's tennis team from Paradise Valley, Ariz., was named to the women's third team. Beauchene played at No. 3 singles and No. 1 and 2 doubles this year. She has a 3.68 grade point average.

Southern Utah

TRACK AND FIELD: Seven Southern Utah track and field athletes will try to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships this Friday and Saturday at the NCAA West Regional Championships in Palo Alto, Calif. The Thunderbird women, who clinched the Mid-Continent Conference "Triple Crown" for the second time in three seasons, will be represented by six athletes, while the Thunderbird men will have one.
