LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles County supervisors have voted to clear the way for the largest subdivision in county history to be built 35 miles north of downtown, dashing the hopes of environmentalists opposed to urban sprawl.

By a 4-1 vote, the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a revised environmental impact report on a plan to build 20,885 homes on 12,000 acres of oak- and sage-covered hills in the Santa Clarita Valley.
