PROVO — Mayor Lewis Billings has again vetoed a controversial housing law that would have limited the number of singles allowed to rent a unit in some parts of the city.

Billings said the legislation, which would have effected 11 neighborhoods, was too broad and overreaching.

He used those same words to justify his veto of a similar housing ordinance in March.

That ordinance would have reduced the number of singles allowed to rent a unit in the city's family neighborhoods from three to two.

Billings said residents who want such a law applied in their neighborhood should have to "opt in" with a majority vote.
