May 27, 2003

Delores, age 75, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully from natural causes at LDS Hospital.

Born February 12, 1928 in Salt Lake City to Eva Amelia Lippert and Fredrick Johannas Young Straaberg. She was their only child and best friend. As a youngster she had fond memories roaming the foothills of Salt Lake riding her horse. During World War II she flew supplies back and forth around Utah. In fact, she earned her pilots license before she received her driver's license. Delores married Victor John Sismondi in 1951. Shortly after their marriage, Victor invited his mother-in-law, Eva Straaberg, to live with them until her death in 1986.

Delores was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She taught in the Salt Lake School District for 23 years at Onequa and Washington Elementary Schools and continued her relationship with her teaching colleagues by joining the FINS Dinner Club. She actively participated in her bridge club for over 60 years. She was also involved in several travel groups. During her marriage to Victor, they were able to visit every continent except Antarctica. After returning home from one of her exciting trips, she was always eager to start planning the next adventure.

She loved her family, traveling, cooking and gardening.

She will be greatly missed by her loving family, dear friends and wonderful neighbors.

Survived by three children, whom she was very proud of, son, John Sismondi (Maggie) Puyallup, WA; and daughters, Victoria Thomas (Randall) Taylorsville; and Holly Sismondi Snell, Salt Lake City; eight grandchildren: Angela and Julie Sismondi; Tiffany,

Tamara, Talisha and Randall-Victor Thomas; Bobby and Jaclyn Snell.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple at 12:00 noon. Viewing Monday 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary and Tuesday 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
