PARIS (AP) — Wayne Ferreira injured his groin and was carried off the court on a stretcher Friday during his third-round match against Rainer Schuettler at the French Open.
Ferreira waved both arms to an applauding crowd as he was carried away. He was to undergo tests later in the day, organizers said.
The South African was chasing a forehand when he fell into a split and landed on his back. Schuettler rushed to the other side of the court with ice for Ferreira's upper leg.
Schuettler, seeded 11th, won 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (3), 2-3. The German was runner-up at the Australian Open.

This French Open marked Ferreira's 50th straight Grand Slam tournament — a run that started at Wimbledon 1990. The only player with a longer streak is Stefan Edberg at 54.
