PROVO — Another Viking ship set sail Friday afternoon at Pleasant Grove High School's commencement exercises.

Tender tributes marked the occasion, which celebrated the class of 2003's graduation along with Principal Eris Waymire's retirement.

"Eris was a person who found solutions to needs," said William Delaney, assistant superintendent for Alpine School District.

Respect for Waymire featured prominently though students couldn't resist including photos of Waymire in a bikini during a video tribute. Delaney explained that Waymire had her own style, from personally rewiring school fixtures to forgery.

"The only thing she didn't attempt to forge was currency," Delaney said, "because she felt that was a little chancy."

Valedictorian Braden Powell looked to take advantage of the moment.

"This would be an opportune time to ask for money," Powell joked.

According to Waymire, money is not a problem for the seniors who received $906,698 in scholarships and an estimated $1,568,483 in college credits through concurrent enrollment and advance placement courses.

However, Waymire seemed more proud of the students' inner achievements than outward accolades.

"Thank you all you graduates for growing up to be the kind of people you are," Waymire said. "You brought pride and honor to the community through your acts and activities. I will always remember you all, too."
