Two West Valley residents face charges in connection with an April 13 incident in which a 3-year-old girl was bitten in the face by a dog they allegedly owned.
The pair, a 24-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, face charges of child abuse, a third-degree felony; dog fighting, a third-degree felony; and reckless endangerment, a class A misdemeanor.
The victim and her family were visiting Liberty Park when they walked past a picnic table where the man and woman and their pit bull were located, according to the charges.
The child sat on the picnic table while the two parties talked, then jumped down from the table. At that moment, the dog bit the girl, and her face "was torn open from mouth to ear on her left side," according to the charges filed in 3rd District Court.
