Udell was raised in Moroni, Utah and attended Snow College in Ephraim, Utah. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northern States. He trained to become a watch repairman and diamond expert, consequently moving his family to Salt Lake City and initially working for O.C. Tanner Jewelry Co. He later was hired by Hubbard Denn Jewelers, and he eventually bought the store along with a partner, Fred Dunn. After a few years, he purchased his partner's share and became sole owner. He was very successful and enjoyed working with the public.

Udell was a very good handyman and could fix absolutely anything. He was an excellent remodeler, plumber, and electrician. He also loved to fix cars and "tinker" with them. He loved to visit and was interested in everyone's life and what was happening. He loved to map out trips and plan them, but not actually go on them. The travels he did go on gave him grand memories. The last three years of his life were a battle against Alzheimer's Disease and cancer.

He is survived by his sons, Dr. Rodney U. (Elaine) Anderson, of Stanford, CA, and Stuart Elam Anderson, of Las Vegas, NV; a daughter, Suzette (Gene) Fradella, of St. George; eight grandchildren; six great-grand-children; and a sister, Wanda Holman, of Salt Lake City. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; sisters, Maxine and Voneal; and brothers, Andrew Deon, Boyd and Robert Ellis.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 7, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends may call Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to services at the Mortuary. Interment will follow in Fairview South Cemetery under the direction of Larkin Mortuary, (801) 363-5781.
