I am a police officer in the Salt Lake Valley. After reading the Deseret News editorial "Granite got it right on guns" I was extremely insulted for the people who choose to have a concealed weapons permit. The article stated that people who feel the need to carry a dangerous weapon with them are probably dealing with other "larger" issues, insinuating that they have mental problems. Many of your readers should be outraged at this type of insulting, derogatory opinion. People who choose to carry concealed weapons have chosen to take responsibility for protecting themselves and their families in critical situations.

To all liberals who wish to leave their safety in the hands of criminals, I offer some staggering statistics according to Utah's Bureau of Criminal Identification in the year 2001: There is a homicide every 5.29 days, a robbery every 7.35 hours and a rape every 10.03 hours. Those who choose not to carry concealed weapons are simply whistling in the dark.
