UtahFOOTBALL: The Utah football team has elected five seniors as its captains for the 2003 season. They are: DE Jason Kaufusi, DB Dave Revill, DE Josh Savage, LB Ray Holdcraft and OT Thomas Herrion.

Kaufusi is a two-time first-team all-Mountain West Conference defensive end. Revill was a second-team all-conference defensive back last fall and Savage was an honorable mention all-MWC defensive end. Holdcraft and Herrion, both junior college transfers last season, worked their way into starting roles and are expected to vie for all-league honors in 2003 at linebacker and offensive tackle, respectively.

"Other than getting married and having children, one of the greatest moments in life is when your team elects you captain," said coach Urban Meyer. "We're going to lean on them and demand a lot from them."

Competition for the 800-meter run begins on Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. MDT. Hammons, a junior, qualified by finishing fifth (2:07.47) at the NCAA West Regional on June 7 in Palo Alto, Calif.

"This is Nellie's first NCAA Championship, and it should be a great learning experience for her future races at the national level," said Hammons' coach, Brian Appell. "It would be great if she is able to advance through the different qualifying heats."
