1922 ~ 2003

Chester Harris Asay died on 9 June 2003 at his home in Orem, Utah.

He was born on 3 March 1922 in Lovell, WY to Orson Vern and Ella Faye Harris Asay.

After leaving his family's ranch in Meeteetse, WY, he served a full time Spanish-speaking mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Texas and New Mexico. He married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Waters in Elizabeth Town, KY on 23 December 1944 and they were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. He graduated from the University of Utah, and went on to receive a Master's degree. Chet served 32 years in the US Armed Forces, retiring from the Air Force with the rank of Lt. Col. He served during World War II in Japan and in Vietnam, and was posted to many different foreign locations through the years including Munich, London, Madrid and Tehran.

During his long life, he was dedicated to selfless service which included responsibilities as district mission president, district president, High Priest group leader, and branch president among other positions. Recently his most enjoyable assignment was at the MTC in Provo where he learned to deeply love the missionaries and all those that served with him.

Chester was many things rancher, fisherman, Church leader, and military officer. But he was primarily a husband, father and grandfather. He told magnificent stories, sang Ivan Skavinsky Skavar, Little Red Wing and a plethora of old cowboy songs during interminable car trips across the country and told hilarious jokes. He left a wonderful legacy of hard work and success. He was a friend to literally thousands having lived and worked in all corners of the earth. He was courageous to the end, never believing that he would lose the battle with cancer. And, he didn't. O Death where is thy sting. O Grave, where is thy victory?

Survivors include his wife Evelyn; children: Ronald (Vicky), Blaine (Patrice), Brenda Asay George (Steve), Kevin (Stephanie); brothers David, Al, Wayne, Kay; grandchildren Chad, Matthew, Brett, Natalie, Clark, Meghan, Brittany, Courtney, Paige, Stephanie, Johnathan, Darius, Dan, Michelle, Scott, Lisa, Brian, Kenneth, Sean, Natania, Kyle, Brandon, Cameron; 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Kenneth and his wife Nila and brother Harris, sisters Ida, Viola, Verna Fay.
