I saw a man on the news saying he had been persecuted because his religion was not LDS. I think his definition needs some work. In my dictionary it says, "a program or campaign to exterminate, drive away or subjugate a people because of their religion, race or beliefs."
There were many LDS people tarred and feathered. Slaves were beaten and whipped because of color. This man says he was persecuted. Today, those kind of things would make headlines, which I never saw. Maybe he was asked to smoke outside or something.
