President Bernie Machen: "The U. offers the widest array of undergraduate and graduate programs in the state and trains professionals such as doctors and lawyers. That mix makes us unique. The university brings some $275 million in research funding to the state and provides residents of the Mountain West the highest quality health care. We are working with the regents and legislators to deal with high growth and limited funding. We are trying to convey to them the important role of the university as an agent for economic development."
