PITTMAN ARRESTED: Super Bowl star Michael Pittman of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was arrested after police in Pittsburgh say he rammed a car carrying his wife, their son and the baby sitter. No one was hurt.

Pittman, 27, has not been charged and was released from jail. The county attorney will determine whether charges will be filed.

The Buccaneers had no comment, team spokesman Jeff Kamis said.

Pittman rushed for a game-high 124 yards on 29 carries in Tampa Bay's 48-21 victory over Oakland in the Super Bowl.

GRIESE GONE: Brian Griese was once touted as a replacement for John Elway. Now Griese is about to become a victim of the salary cap.

The Broncos are expected to release Griese on Monday, a move that will save the team $6.3 million in salary cap space over the next two years.

"He comes from a business-minded family who understands how professional football works as well or better than anyone," said Ralph Cindrich, Griese's agent.

Griese could end up in Dallas, where new coach Bill Parcells might want to add a veteran quarterback, but Miami appears to be the best fit.

GALAXY QUENCH FIRE: The Frankfurt Galaxy routed the Rhein Fire 38-7 on Sunday to earn their fifth trip to the World Bowl.

Frankfurt (6-3), which snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Fire, won the championship in 1995 and 1999.

The Scottish Claymores (5-4) beat the Barcelona Dragons (5-4) 45-7 on Saturday, and both teams can still earn a spot in the title game in Glasgow, Scotland on June 14. The Fire (5-4) also have a chance to reach the NFL Europe final.

Running

DUTCH GAMES: Kenenisa Bekele beat Ethiopian countryman Haile Gebrselassie on Sunday in running the fastest 10,000 meters this year at the Dutch Thales FBK Games in the Netherlands.

Bekele was timed in 26 minutes, 53.7 seconds in his first 10,000 race, 55 seconds behind the world record set by Gebrselassie five years ago in Hengelo's FBK Stadium.

Bekele, the world cross-country champion, had challenged Gebrselassie to set a world record. Another Ethiopian, Sihine Sileshi, was third.

HOME DEPOT INVITE: Olympic champion Maurice Greene, buoyed by an attitude adjustment, sped to victory in the men's 100 meters, and Mexican star Ana Guevara triumphed easily in the women's 400 meters at the first Home Depot Track & Field Invitational on Sunday in Carson, Calif.

Basketball

COMET SUSPENDED: Houston forward Tina Thompson missed Sunday's game at Minnesota after being suspended by the WNBA for one game without pay for flagrantly elbowing Katie Douglas during a loss to Connecticut.

Thompson elbowed Douglas with 8:27 left in the Sun's 91-83 win Friday. Thompson swung her elbow and connected with the right side of Douglas' head as the two went for a rebound, drawing a flagrant foul and an ejection.
