TAYLORSVILLE — Officers of the Majestic Meadows Residents' Association will be getting subpoenaed in time for a June 18 hearing before City Council to answer questions about their election held earlier this month.

"I just want to know the truth," said Councilman Russ Wall.

The state statute governing mobile home parks says that at least 51 percent of a park's homeowners association must be present at an election. That apparently did not happen at Majestic Meadows, according to complaints from some residents.

The city's involvement in a state matter is in response to those complaints.

Now, the City Council wants all the election records for a closer examination of the process. And officers are being told to disclose all financial records, bylaws, meeting minutes and articles of incorporation.

The current and former presidents, vice president, secretary, treasurer and the association as an entity will all get subpoenas.

City Councilman Ken Cook, who was at the park's election, called its election process "bogus" and a "disgrace."

Association president Floris Copier called the election fair and legal.

In the past, residents have blamed ongoing problems on Kingsley Management, linking them to inflated natural gas prices and aggressive towing of vehicles. Kingsley and city leaders say an investigation into the election is a step toward getting residents proper representation.

"I think it's something the city shouldn't have to get involved in," Wall said. Mobile home park resident associations are required to follow state statute that governs how a park should operate.

Some Majestic Meadows residents, Wall added, don't want the city sticking its nose in the park's problems.

During the last session of the Legislature, a bill failed that would have put more regulatory power over mobile home parks in the hands of city officials.
