1916 ~ 2003
Ed passed away peacefully with his family at his side Saturday May 31, 2003. He enjoyed a wonderful life as a man of high integrity who honored his values and lovingly served his wife and family.
He was called to serve in the British Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during World War II, where he spread the gospel principles through missionary lessons and athletic teams. His missionary team won the British National Basketball Championship and later defeated the German Olympic Games team.
He served as bishop of the Cummings Ward, Salt Lake City and his friendly personality and love for others uplifted many lives. He was voted "Most Popular Bishop" in 1951 by the East Millcreek Stake. He served for 13 years on the General MIA Board in the Athletic Department working on the church athletic programs he enjoyed so much.
He completed the plumbing and heating work for the construction of the Los Angeles Temple and placed the Angel Moroni on top. Ed and Marie, with their daughters served by posing for the Eternal Family statue placed outside that temple. Later in life, he was a devoted worker in the Salt Lake Temple serving more than 17 years. Married in the Salt Lake Temple to Marie Jennie Okland June 20, 1941.
He was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Karen Evans Petersen. He is survived by his wife, Marie, of 62 years; daughters, Stacey Lasson, Martha (Kevin) Kelsey; son, Edmund (Becky Tingey) Evans; 13 grand-children; and six great-grandchildren.
Most of all, he is loved deeply by his family and was the best husband, father and grandpa any family could have.
Services will be Wed. June 4, 2003 12 noon Monument Park LDS 9th Ward, 1565 S. Foothill Dr. Friends may call Tues. June 3, 2003, 5-8 p.m. Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Dr. and Wed. one hour prior to services at the church. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Cemetery.
