HUNTSVILLE, Weber County — A 16-year-old boy's body will be taken to the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to determine what caused him to drown in Pine View Reservoir Sunday.

The boy has been identified as John Harney of Ogden.

Harney and some friends were hanging onto a log about 50 feet from Quist Beach about 6 p.m. He and a friend started to swim back to the shore. About 25 feet from the shore, Harney began to struggle. He called to another friend who was on the log. Then he went under the water, a Weber County Sheriff's statement said.

Authorities recovered Harney's body about 7:30 p.m. He was 15 feet under the water's surface, the statement said.

It is the second drowning this spring.
