Aung San Suu Kyi is my hero. The courage and dedication of this woman are an example for all. She received the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1991 and has given the last 15 years of her life for the cause of human rights, freedom and democracy in Myanmar/Burma.
Elections were organized in 1990, but despite its large victory, Aung San Suu Kyi's party (National League for Democracy) was never allowed to rule. On May 30, 2003, there was yet another crackdown, after a few months of freedom. She is currently held in protective custody. More than 100 members of her party are still missing.
Today, as we sadly celebrate her birthday, let us remember the high price that some people pay for their freedom and honor their work.
