Elden Urban Rasmussen, age 85, of Salt Lake City, UT, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at his home surrounded by his wife and all his children.

Elden was born April 30, 1918 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah to Wilford and Matilda Winkelmann Rasmussen. He attended North Sanpete High School and graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Biological Science. He also did graduate work at Utah State University and the University of Utah. He served for 4 years as a medical administrative officer in the Air Force during World War II.

On Sept. 26, 1945 he married Blanche Rust in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They are the parents of four, Leslie (David) Moore, Jordan (DeAnn Richins), Diane (Doug) Duckworth, and Ann Marie (David) Herpich.

He was employed by the Salt Lake Board of Education for 37 years, where he taught science and served in administration as a counselor and principal. He was "a favorite" and loved by all his students.

His greatest joy in life was his family. He had an endearing relationship with his children and each one of his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His example of love and kindness, especially to his sweetheart, will be an enduring legacy to his family for generations to come.

His love for his family was evidenced by his attendance at countless sporting events, dance and musical performances as well as playing tennis, golfing, and traveling extensively with them.

As a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he enthusiastically served where he was called. He was anxiously engaged in the missionary program having served three missions with his wife and 11 years as a temple ordinance worker.

He is survived by his wife and daughters, son-in-law, Tom Kilgore, 15 grandchildren, nine great-grand children, and his brother, Lloyd (Nadine) Rasmussen. He was preceded in death by his only son, Jordan.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Garden Heights Ward, 2220 E. Fisher Lane (2935 So.) Friends may call Friday evening, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church on Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
