Sen. Hatch's statement, "We must all work together to see that the American public receives both innovative and affordable medicine," is just a euphemism for more government intervention, which is the very reason the health-care system in this country is as sick as it is.
Looking to Canada, as Arthur Olsen suggests (Readers' Forum, June 24), is definitely not the answer. One only need ask the increasing number of Canadians who come across the border to get medical care if one needs to know why.
Government intervention in the health-care market created the problems in the first place, and the government's proposal to solve them will only make matters worse. If Hatch really wants to see the American public receive innovation and affordability in medicine, he need only get out of the way of the market and let it do its job.
