PROVO — Alpine Air Express Inc., with operating subsidiary Alpine Air, is preparing to file a formal protest with the U.S. Postal Service's general counsel regarding the Postal Service's decision to reallocate airmail routes to a combination of service contractors.

Alpine said Friday it also is preparing a federal court lawsuit to obtain a stay of the new award of the contract and is preparing to send to its employees a letter explaining the service's actions and Alpine's plans to contest them, and asking the employees to write to the USPS and congressional representatives to further protest the developments.

Alpine Air provides scheduled air cargo flights throughout the Western and Southwestern United States.
