"The last of the Childs' girls"
Our dad's best friend, and our mother and grandmother, Jean Childs Stamos, died of cancer June 27, 2003 at her home in Murray.
Jean was born Sept 9, 1920 in Gunnison, UT to Clifford Howard and Lydia Swain Childs. She was valedictorian of her graduating class at Gunnison Valley High School, 1938. She attended Brigham Young University and LDS Business College.
In 1939 she moved to Salt Lake City and during World War II became a pioneer social worker for the fledgling welfare system. She was employed with state social services until retirement, 1982.
On June 26, 1948 Jean married George E. Stamos in Las Vegas, NV. They were married for 55 years.
Jean was a longtime resident of Murray. She was a member of the LDS Church. Jean was an avid bridge player, who since 1945 played cards with her bridge club. She is now playing bridge with her sisters.
Jean was preceded in death by her father; mother; stepmother, Ila Dastrup Childs; sisters, Ida Childs Brown, Maxine Childs, Beth Childs Hill, Clay Childs, Ila Childs Lovell; and brother, Wesley Childs. She is survived by her husband, George E. Stamos, Murray; daughters, Lydia Ann Stamos Owen (Gordon), Green River, WY, Kathryn Stamos Erekson (Dan), Murray; son, Thomas E. Stamos, Murray; brothers, Clifford Childs (Venna) Salt Lake City, Russell Childs (Karen) Murray; nine grandchildren; and one great-grand-child.
Services will be Tues. July 1, 2003, 12 noon Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. 10600 S, Sandy where friends may call Mon. 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.
