After reading the "My View" by Jonathan Duersch (May 30, 2003), I have to respond to his accusation of "rhetoric" about President Bush. It is sad that Mr. Duersch is the person confusing rhetoric with facts. The viewpoints of Mr. Hildebrand were not "rhetoric." The only thing I would have added about Bush's character is the question of his military record and how he can be our commander in chief. It is beyond me as to why no one is questioning his service in the Texas Air National Guard, particularly when he was missing for an entire year.
As far as the economy is concerned, the problem with Bush is the fact that he and his party continually ignore one of the main factors of stimulating an economy: jobs.
Over the past couple of decades, conservatives have been comfortable with attacking Democrats. And Democrats have been timid on standing up to those attacks. But as with the schoolyard bully, the time has come to stand firm to the bullying tactics of the Republicans. Conservatives need to take a hard look at themselves instead of relying on the sheepherders who host talk radio programs.
