HANKSVILLE, Beaver County — Fire officials here are monitoring a lightning-caused wildland fire that began Saturday.

The blaze started on Bureau of Land Management property, three miles northwest of Beaver Campground near Hanksville. The fire's slow growth has prompted officials to let the blaze continue burning on its own. As of Monday afternoon, the blaze was just 6.5 acres in size.

"It's burning so incredibly slow that they have two people going out and monitoring it as needed," said Lisa Reid, public affairs officers for the Richfield BLM.

If the fire does not grow too large and fast-moving, officials expect to let the blaze burn itself out, Reid said.
