ST. GEORGE — Two rural telecommunications companies have received grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's rural development loan program.

Thomas Dorr, undersecretary for rural development with the USDA, handed over checks to two community-based businesses at the Rural Utah Business Technology Conference held in St. George last week.

Skyline Telecom Inc. received a check for $850,820, while Uinta Basin Telecommunication Inc. was handed a check for $468,385. The money comes from a USDA program that provides grants for broadband community infrastructure projects.
