Royal P. Anderson, 83, passed away June 2, 2003 in Sandy after a short illness.

Royal was born November 30, 1919 in Garfield, Utah, a son of Henry Claude and Minna Paine Anderson. He attended elementary and junior high school in Garfield and graduated from Cyprus High School in Magna, Utah. He was president of the senior class. After high school he attended the University of Utah and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. Royal's professional career was in engineering. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy in the aviation branch.

Royal married Lila Dimond Anderson June 17, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. They celebrated all special occasions with their family and their 50th wedding anniversary was with them in Hawaii. Lila passed away on December 11, 1998. She is greatly missed by all her family and Royal.

Royal enjoyed the closeness of the family unit and loved and enjoyed being with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He looked forward each summer during his sons growing years to the vacations spent in Yellowstone and their trips to Disneyland. They took other vacations and trips together and Royal's happiest moments were when they were all together celebrating individual birthdays, family gatherings and holiday celebrations and dinners. Royal especially appreciated all the love and devotion he was shown by his and Lila's posterity after her passing in 1998.

Royal was a member of the Harvard Ward and actively participated and attended since moving into the Salt Lake City area in 1948. His church assignments included: Boy Scout Committee and Assistant Scoutmaster, Elders Quorum President, Seventies Quorum President, High Priest Quorum Member, class instructor in both Aaronic and Melchizadek priesthood assignments, Sunday School Superintendent, Ward and Home Teacher, Liberty Stake Missionary, Stake Athletic Director, Ward Clerk and Financial Clerk in two bishoprics, Ward Aaronic Priesthood General Secretary, Stake Aaronic Priesthood Committee Member. Royal's latest church assignment was in the Genealogy Extraction Program. He actively researched genealogy of family members and attended the Temple regularly each week.

Preceded in death by his eternal companion, Lila, his parents, and sister. Survivors include sons, John D. (Jeannie) and James D. (Susan) of West Valley City; grandchildren Bret (Shuree) of South Jordan, Bart (LeeAnn), Michelle (Scott) Noyce, and Jennifer (Troy) Christiansen of West Jordan; great-grandchildren, Chaz, Tanner, Ashley, Brooklyn, Cole, Gabrielle, Cambrie Anderson; Alexis Christiansen.

In accordance with Royal's request there will be graveside services at 12:00 Noon on June 5, 2003 at Valley View Memorial Park, 4391 West 4100 South. Friends may call on Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at Valley View Funeral Home.
